The AO3 Fanzine Scan Hosting Project (FSHP) is dedicated to the digital preservation of select fanzine works and other fannish artifacts, with permission from the creators and/or publishers.

Background
This project began in 2017 as Zinedom, a fan-run preservation project dedicated to helping creators bring their fanzine works online for the next generation of fans.
In 2022, Zinedom entered into a partnership with the OTW Open Doors committee to form the AO3 Fanzine Scan Hosting Project (FSHP). This is a subproject of the Fan Culture Preservation Project (FCPP), which focuses on preserving hard-copy zines.
What do FSHP volunteers do?
Open Doors and Zinedom volunteers work with both individual creators and fanzine publishers in order to bring digitized copies of fanzine works to the Archive of Our Own (AO3). This includes transcribing fiction and meta, scanning art, and uploading it all to AO3 collections named for the original fanzines.
Importantly, fanzine works will only be imported to the AO3 with permission from their creators and/or zine publishers.
Where can I find the FSHP-imported works?
These are currently works-in-progress, but the following locations will help give you an idea of what has been imported so far:
- AO3 collections created by FSHP.
- Works tagged as imported by FSHP. (However, note that creators who claim their works may choose to remove this tag.)
- FSHP page on Fanlore.
At least once a year, Open Doors will also announce our progress made – and details of the fanzine publishers who have agreed to work with FSHP – so keep an eye on the AO3 news posts!
What if my work has previously been published in a fanzine?
Please contact Open Doors with your fanzine pseud(s) and contact information, if:
- You’d like to give Open Doors permission to import fanzines for which you were the publisher or any fanworks of yours that were published in fanzines.
- You already have an AO3 account and have imported your fanzine works already yourself.
- You’d like to import your fanzine works yourself (including if you don’t have an AO3 account yet).
- You’d like to import your fanzine works yourself and need a copy of the story or art scan.
- You would NOT like your fanzine works moved to the AO3.
- You are happy for us to preserve your fanzine works on the AO3, but would like us to remove your name or prefer to use another name/pseudonym.
- You’re interested in helping Open Doors and Zinedom transcribe works from fanzines.
- You have any other questions we can help you with.
Please include the name of the project (FSHP or AO3 Fanzine Scan Hosting Project) in the subject heading of your message.
